Last week we did many things. We had a math test, a social studies test, a reading test, and a spelling test. We did a 9-11 writing; the 9-11 writing was about a girl’s experience of being in and very close to the plane crashes. We also did ¨I am poems.¨ I am poems are little poems about us. In social studies we learned about how historians rely on archaeologists to study prehistory. For science we went to Mr. Pacak's class and took lots of notes about energy, the atmosphere, hydrosphere and more. We also read a story named ¨Just Once¨ and took a test on the story. As you can see we did a lot!

This year for our End-of-Year trip, the 6th grade classes at LFE went to Boomers in Irvine. Students were able to ride go karts, bumper boats, play miniature golf or laser tag, as well as go on some other small rides. Although the line for concessions was long at times, the students enjoyed having the freedom to explore the many available activities and games. Kyle chose to learn more about quadcopters and invited a friend to come and demonstrate how it worked. This video was shot using the quadcopter and a GoPro camera attached. On Friday, May 30, the 6th grade classes at LFE participated in a Greek Olympic Day. Students competed in Olympic style athletic events and were able to taste Greek food. Some classes also prepared and put on Greek myth skits. For this report, students were allowed to choose a topic to explore, learn about it and report back to the class. Some of the topics chosen were Greek Gods, Ancient Rome, sports figures and techniques, and quadcopters. They submitted a written report, a project component, and presented their topics to the class. On May 22, our class attended a fieldtrip to the San Joaquin Marsh operated by the Irvine Ranch Water District. We had had a pre-fieldtrip activity to test and filter water samples and continued experiments at the marsh. Students also took a tour of the marsh and learned about the animals, birds and water systems that are part of the wetlands. In science the class has been learning about the various biomes around the world. They were tasked with creating a diorama to show one biome of their choosing. Ocean, tundra, rain forest and desert were some of those featured. One of the highlights of science camp was skit night. Each cabin group prepared and shared their skits with the whole group. Here is a sampling of the performances. A slideshow of photos from camp appears below. If anyone has additional photos to share, please send or bring the memory card or photos to school and we can add them to this collection. If you click on the slideshow you will be taken to the web album where you can download and save any images you want to keep. Today's weather was a vast improvement from yesterday! Although it was cloudy, there was no precipitation and the fog lifted by late morning. For breakfast we had sausage patties, hash browns, and scrambled eggs with biscuits and gravy. After breakfast, the groups worked through a variety of stations that included games like animal password and fish bowl and other activities like frisbee golf. It was an American themed menu for lunch with hot dogs, fries, chili, and salads. In the afternoon, the groups continued with their rotations and prepared to present their skits. On the dinner menu were chicken, rice, steamed veggies and salad. They served spiced cupcakes for dessert. The evening was capped off by the presentation of skits by cabin groups. Tomorrow morning the buses are scheduled to be here at 10am. If all goes as planned, we should be back at LFE by around 12 noon.
