Today we got to attend an assembly put on the by the Orange County Philharmonic Society. We had a wind quintet perform and tell us about each of their instruments as well as a few non-traditional instruments. They played music ranging from classical to several that were more current. It was a great performance!

Today in the science lab we had to get a spoonful of soil and put it in a plastic shallow cup. We had a water dropper and a cup of water and we had to drop the water on the soil to see if the dirt was soft, if some of the dirt floated, if It was clumpy, grainy etc. After we were done with the dirt we had to write about the dirt, how it felt, and if our predictions were right or wrong and what about the dirt made our predictions right or wrong.
Last Friday at school we had Caveman Day! Caveman day was probably so far the best day at school this year for me. We were able to have a giant feast with chicken, bread, grapes, and carrots. We had to eat it all with our hands! I enjoyed eating with our hands because everyone was laughing the whole time.
We also made a big sign describing words we had on a sheet of paper but, we had to draw pictures because, writing wasn’t invented yet. One other thing that we did was create skits. I enjoyed all of the funny things that my friends came up with! On Tuesday, Oct. 15th, our class went on a field trip to the Garden Grove High School to see people perform with instruments, from long ago. Some of the instruments were drums, clarinets, flutes, and many others. They played not modern music, but music from long ago.
What I liked about the field trip to Garden Grove High School was the music. It was music you don’t hear on the radio. I liked the fast pace of the music and the beat. It got me motivated to want to learn to play other instruments and keep trying. The music made me excited because I don’t hear music like that very often so I felt happy to hear it. It went by fast to me, and I wished it would’ve been longer. I hope the next field trip is as fun as this one because I had a very fun time on this field trip! Caveman day was one of my most interesting days that I have gotten to experience. We got to learn and feel how people in the past lived and survived in nature. We also learned how they kept themselves healthy and strong. To make my experience more memorable, I got to dress up as a caveman, and do caveman activities such as cave drawings, hunting and gathering, acting them out, and eating like them.
My favorite activity was dressing up as a caveman and doing plays. The reason I liked the plays is because I was an animal that they had to kill and carry back to their camp to eat. When it was time to eat we had to eat as caveman who had to rip apart the chicken, eat it with our hands, and drink water out of a bowl. Caveman day was a very fun and informative activity to do with my classmates! Today was caveman day! In social studies, we have been learning about early humans. As a culminating activity, the students had the opportunity to dress up as prehistoric people and participate in activities including skits, cave-painting, a caveman feast, and hunter-gatherer games. |
