Our buddy class is Mrs. D'errico's first grade class. On Tuesday, February 9th, we went to their class to exchange Valentine's and share books.
Today our school was fortunate to have the author Pseudonymous Bosch visit and sign copies of his latest book.
He talked about what it's like to be an author and what it takes to get published. He also shared how his first novel came into being. He talked about his love for reading as a kid and how that grew into writing different genres. Today in our first district art class, we drew desserts with Mrs. Norris. Since this was our first art class, we all were very excited! There were many choices of desserts that we could choose from! We used oil pastels, and we drew/colored them on black paper. They all turned out very nice! We can’t wait until our next lesson!
By Madie Today in science lab, we dissected a flower. We all got a flower and took the whole entire thing apart. We saw the petals, the ovary, the stamen, and the pistil. We also got to see the eggs. There were so many of them!
After we dissected the flower, we got a worksheet to complete, where we had to answer questions about the flower, and we had to measure certain parts of it. I think we learned a lot, and we had lots of fun dissecting the flower, probably for the very first time for many of us. Today was our first time going to library, and we all enjoyed looking at all the books and checking some out. We were allowed to check out up to 3 books, 1 non-fiction and 2 chapter books. We have library every Tuesday, and we have to return the book or renew the book we checked out, every week. I am sure we all will like reading the books we checked out, and hopefully we will learn something from the non-fiction book we checked out!
by Madie Today in science lab, we measured liquids. The materials we used were a bin of water, 2 cups, 3 graduated cylinders, a funnel, and an eye dropper. The way we measured the water was we filled the cup with water, put the funnel over the largest cylinder and poured in the water to see how much water was in the cup. I am sure everybody had lots of fun with this activity!
City Fitness is a program put on through the City of Irvine. Our generous PTA is sponsoring the program that provides physical activity stations for one hour each week.
Mrs. Aurora is our guidance assistant and she will be coming to our class for 12 30-minute lessons on social skills. The lesson on Tuesday was about being an active listener. She explained what an active listener does and conducted a role play scenario to demonstrate. Today the class took part in an assembly to teach kids how to be safe around animals. The officers covered domesticated animals as well as wild animals that are typically found in the area. |
